SAR Group has entered into a landmark long-term strategic partnership with India’s renewable energy developer, Agastya Green Fuels, to support the development of sustainable marine fuel infrastructure and accelerate the transition towards greener shipping solutions across the Indian Ocean region.
Under the agreement, Agastya Green Fuels will supply 250,000 metric tonnes per annum (KTPA) of EU RFNBO RED III-compliant Green Methanol to SAR Group through a long-term offtake arrangement. The green methanol will be produced at Agastya’s planned Green Fuels Hub at Mulapeta Port, Andhra Pradesh, India, which is expected to become one of the region’s largest green methanol export facilities.
The partnership represents a significant step toward establishing a green maritime energy corridor between India and Sri Lanka, supporting the global shipping industry’s decarbonization goals. Through this collaboration, SAR Group and Agastya Green Fuels will work together to develop green methanol storage, bunkering, and marine fuel infrastructure across Sri Lanka, with strategic focus on Colombo, Hambantota, and Trincomalee as future clean-fuel hubs.
This initiative aligns with SAR Group’s commitment to sustainable maritime solutions and positions Sri Lanka as a key player in the emerging green fuel economy. The collaboration is expected to strengthen regional energy cooperation while creating new opportunities for clean maritime fuel supply chains across the Indian Ocean.
Speaking on the partnership, Agastya Group Founder and CEO Shashi K. Reddy Arjula highlighted the growing importance of the Indian Ocean in the global energy transition, describing the agreement as a major milestone in building the next generation of renewable marine fuel infrastructure.
As the maritime industry accelerates its transition toward net-zero emissions, SAR Group remains committed to investing in innovative and sustainable solutions that support cleaner shipping, energy security, and long-term environmental stewardship.
