SAR Maritime Agencies Facilitates Japanese Steel Industry Delegation Visit to Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka – September 2026:

SAR Maritime Agencies (Pvt) Ltd recently facilitated the visit of representatives from Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc., Japan, to Sri Lanka as part of their exploration of opportunities in the Sri Lankan steel market and potential steel supply to the country.

As part of the visit, SAR Maritime Agencies coordinated a meeting with officials of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), providing the visiting delegation with an opportunity to gain valuable insights into port operations and the logistics infrastructure supporting Sri Lanka’s steel and import sectors.

The delegation also visited the Port of Colombo, where they observed port operations and gained a better understanding of the facilities, handling processes and logistics capabilities available at one of the region’s key maritime gateways.

Subsequently, SAR Maritime Agencies arranged a meeting with the Chairman of MELWA Group, one of Sri Lanka’s largest importers of a wide range of steel products. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Japanese delegation to gain a deeper understanding of the local steel market, import requirements and potential areas for future business collaboration.

The visit reflects SAR Maritime Agencies’ commitment to connecting international suppliers with leading Sri Lankan businesses and facilitating new opportunities across the maritime, logistics and steel sectors.
